How we use data.
Data use and security
We use licensed market data, our clients' own records and public benchmarks to recommend fuel prices. Licensed market data stays inside our systems. Clients receive recommendations, not data.
Market data
We use station-level prices for regular gasoline and diesel only under written license agreements with commercial data providers. We do not scrape websites or applications, and we do not purchase scraped data.
The data is for our internal use. Our analysts and pricing models use it to produce recommendations. We do not sell, share or display it. It does not appear on this website, in client reports, on client dashboards or in exports. Clients receive their recommended price, their position in the local market and the rationale.
We test our models on historical data before they produce recommendations for clients. When a data agreement ends, we return or delete the data as that agreement requires.
Client data
A client's sales, fuel costs and posted prices are used only for that client's recommendations and reports. Each client's data is stored separately and is never combined with another client's. We do not sell or share it.
At the end of an engagement, a client may request a copy of their data or its deletion.
Security
Any system that holds client or market data must meet these requirements.
- Access is limited to staff who require it, each with an individual account.
- Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Licensed market data is processed on our servers and never sent to client devices.
- We record which data went into every recommendation.
Commitments
We work with only one station per area.
We never advise two stations that compete for the same customers.
You always set your own prices.
We provide recommendations. Every posted price is the operator's decision.
Data providers
We work with independent stations and convenience stores with 1 to 50 locations, in all 50 states and DC. Data providers and industry partners can reach us at data@marginline.co.
